Construction zones are already a dangerous place. Add distracted drivers to the mix and it could end up deadly.
That’s why Ohio safety experts are taking aim at motorists who are using cell phones while driving through highway construction zones.
It’s called "No Phones in Construction Zones" and is a part of a national effort started by Oprah Winfrey.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a recent study found that 71-percent of people between the ages of 18 and 49 admit to texting or talking while driving.
In 2009, there were more than 5,000 crashes in work zones in Ohio. O-DOT is urging drivers to put the phones away while passing through those zones.
