Women will have the chance to bid on more than 100 purses with incentives at next Saturday’s Power of the Purse Auction.

It’s the fifth year the Muskingum Valley Red Cross has put on the auction, where participants get to enjoy a gourmet meal and wine while spending some money.

"It’s really becoming like the premiere ladies event in Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties. It’s awesome, so much fun. It really is a gathering of friends too, " says Marlene Henderson of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

You may notice something a little different too this year. There will be a Bag Lady Boulevard Auction, where women can bid on slightly used bags and purses.

Proceeds of the event will go to the red cross’ disaster relief fund.

"We never know when that next fire is going to happen. Over the weekend, we were sitting back with our fingers crossed, hoping we didn’t have any flooding. So far, so good with that. We just never know, so we always have to be prepared, " says Henderson.

The fund is lacking money and still remains in the red.

Tickets for the Power of the Purse Auction are 35 dollars a piece, or you can reserve a table for about 400 dollars.
