30 people are arrested in Athens after a spring block party, know as Palmerfest, gets out of hand. 10 of those individuals were Ohio University students.
The annual event started around eight a.m. Saturday, and the Athens Police Department says it didn’t escalate until later in the night.
Two parties along Palmer Street were shut down around 9:30 p.m. after people tried to light fireworks. Then, officers say party-goers began throwing beer bottles at them and other mounted officers before setting a couch on fire in the middle of the street around 11:30 p.m.
The police department says it was able to clear the street and end the parties so fire personnel could put the blaze out.
One officer was hurt as a result of the event and a police horse also received minor cuts.
