The ballots are in and the final tallies are almost done.

Although the numbers were a little lower than predicted, voters in Muskingum County still let their voices be heard.

"We had a 20.8% turnout," said Chris Hamill of the Muskingum County Board of Elections. "We had 11,221 voters this election. I had predicted 28% and it dropped to 20.8%"

The official count will be held May 18th at 9 a.m. Hamill says this year many participated in absentee voting.

"W had approximately 2,748 absentee requests that were before election day," she said. "It’s more for convenience. People can have the ballot mailed to them. They can take their time at home to vote that and then return the ballot back to us."

The deadline to put an issue on the ballot for the primary election, held in November, is August 19.
