More People Got Seasonal Flu Shots

There’s a few seasonal flu shots left at the Rambo Memorial Health Center in Zanesville before they expire on June 30th.

Staff members say it was a busy year for them, giving out the seasonal flu mist and standard vaccination.

"More people were aware of the flu shot and its benefits. We had more people get it than ever before. We gave an excess of 20,000 flu shots, " says Executive Assistant, Jan Woerner.

Most of the people who turned out were either high risk groups or people who had never gotten the vaccination before.

Woerner says that number may be contributed to people’s concerns over the H1N1 virus.

The demand did leave the health center in short supply at one point.

"Because manufacturers made the H1N1 vaccine, they halted production on the seasonal vaccine so we ran out and weren’t able to get anymore-although we continued to try, " says Woerner.

In preparation for next year, Woerner says there will be plenty of vaccinations available for the public.
