School may be ending soon, but one local school is teaching its students how to be healthy all summer and beyond.

Today Nashport Elementary School held a wellness day, educating the students about the importance of good health.

"They’re trying to teach our kids about wellness and safety, how to eat right and exercise," said First Grade Teacher Tiffanee Brownrigg. "To get them aware since summer is coming and they won’t be here, maybe they can practice some of these things at home."

With the help of Genesis, local doctors and the Tri Valley sports teams, the school made learning about wellness fun.

"they love it," said Brownrigg. "They’ll tell me at the end of the day that this is the best day of the year. It’s fun. I hope they can understand what exercise really is. A lot them sometimes don’t get enough and eating healthy."

Brownrigg says some children don’t have the opportunity to go outside and play as much as they should. She says today’s event will give them ideas of things they can do to have fun and stay active this summer.
