Be Well, Be Healthy, and Eat More Often?

If you’re looking to lose weight, skipping meals is not the way to do it.

Health officials say that the best way to lose a few pounds is to cut out the sweet stuff, not to starve yourself.

"If you starve yourself by not eating breakfast or lunch or just drinking a pop, then your body feels like it’s being starved and when you do give it food, it wants to store it," says Health Director of the Muskingum County Health Department, Dr. Vicki Whitacre.

Dr. Whitacre says that smaller meals every two to three hours is a good way to go about losing weight.

"You need to give your body small amounts frequently and it will go, oh, there’s lots of food, I will use it. And it won’t add on the pounds, it will use it, it changes your metabolism," says Dr. Whitacre.

The important thing is to be aware of what you are putting into your body.

"What you eat is what you become and if you eat lots of high fat foods, and high sugar foods you’re going to become plump just like those foods are. You need to eat lean and mean and keep yourself as active as possible," says Dr. Whitacre.

So let’s all remember to be well, be healthy and trade in your soda and candy for some fresh fruit and vegetables.
