Some community members beat the heat with home made ice cream Saturday evening.
The Faith United Methodist Church whipped up almost 20 gallons of the summer treat for this year’s Community Festival at the church. Along with the sweet treats they also held a car show and had lots of games for kids.
"We’ve done something like this as long as the church has existed," said Pastor Rob Turner. "It used to be an ice cream social and then we decided to branch it out to be more than just food and make it a community festival the last two or three years."
Church members and the community also released balloons with an inspirational message in honor of Pastor Turner, who will start a new future at Summit Station Church in Pataskala.
"Share God’s love in a tangible way in our community. We’re going to do a balloon launch that has a nice little message on it and hopefully someone will pick it up and take it to heart."
The church accepted donations for Saturday’s dinner and activities. All the money is going towards the church’s mission work in Haiti.
