Two people are dead after an early morning accident along State Route 79 in Licking County.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. in Union Township.

The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Gerald Huffman III was traveling north in a 2006 Saturn when he went left of center and struck the driver of a Toyota RAV4, 30-year-old Matthew Trombetta, head-on.

Trombetta was pronounced dead at the scene.

Huffman and his passenger, Ambrose turner were taken to Licking Memorial Hospital, where Huffman died from his injuries. Turner was then transported to OSU Medical Center in Columbus, where he is in critical condition.

Troopers say alcohol may be a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
