National Trails Fire Department was the first on the scene of the crash.
Assistant Fire Chief Steve Dupler says the first step crews take is to assess the scene to see if there are any hazards or if anyone is injured.
"You try to do this to try to help people out, so every time you arrive on something like this, you want to do everything you can, " says Dupler.
The crews were able to help the woman and child in the van, but they did need to use the jaws-of-life to get to the other five occupants out of the Chevy Cavalier. It was a process that Duplar says took over an hour.
