Jobless Rates Drop

More people in Southeastern Ohio have jobs. That’s the latest news from the state.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released the figures for May, and the jobless rates have fallen close to one percent. Muskingum County Opportunity Center tells us why.

"We kind of look at it as a seasonal thing right now. We do have construction picking up, we do have a lot of landscaping companies in the area that have picked up people," says Julie Metzger, job developer.

Recent trends have shown a see-saw affect on the job market in these difficult times. While some businesses continue to prosper, others have hit rock bottom.

"We’ll have positions that become available where companies may be hiring and that’s going to push it up some, and then at the same time, we’ve had companies that have laid off or have closed which is going to bring it up and push it back down," says Metzger.

The Muskingum County Opportunity center has seen a recent need for personnel among some distribution centers. There will be one company looking to hire at the opportunity center tomorrow.
