Engaging in activities on mine property have proven to be extremely dangerous.
Statistics indicate over the past 10 years, 300 people have died in recreational accidents on mining properties, and most of those individuals were between the ages of 15 and 25.
The Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration, the Ohio Aggregates and Industrial Minerals Association, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are teaming to prevent these tragedies from occurring. They’re promoting the "Stay Out-Stay Alive" campaign, which has been going on now for 12 years.
Staff say it’s important to respect the signs on these properties, which say "no trespassing." They discourage people from swimming, playing, or riding ATV’s on the mining properties.
