More than 150 students will have the opportunity to work with employers in Muskingum County.

It’s part of a new Subsidized Summer Youth Employment Program that the Muskingum County Opportunity Center is able to offer.

The funding for it is made possible thanks to a $530,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. Any employer can take part, as long as it doesn’t receive federal funding.

"With the economic times, some of the city is just not able to hire a lot of summer help like in the past with temporary jobs. For example, vacant buildings where they cut the grass, " says Muskingum County Opportunity Executive Director, Bob Mercer.

So it can request any number of students to help out.

"The biggest benefit to the employer is that after you pay out to these kids, every penny of that is going to be reimbursed back to your company, " says program coordinator, Jason Smith.

The program will last through the end of August. If you’re interested in taking part, call 740-454-6211.
