Buying Local Produce

Farmers say they are noticing a trend of more people wanting to buy local produce.

The Dowtown Farmer’s Market in Zanesville was packed this afternoon with people choosing to spend their money here and buying from local farmers.

"It’s 2,000 miles fresher than what’s in most of the grocery stores that won’t buy from the local farmers, " says local farmer Mark Barnhart.

Barnhart says most local farmers try to stay as close to organic as possible.

"People are starting to ask, ‘Did you raise it?’ Where before, they didn’t care. (They ask) how long ago it was picked, and because I do it, I know it, " says Barnhart.

Blueberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green beans are some of the produce local farmers are currently offering. You can also expect to see corn very soon.
