Zanesville City Council will address an important zoning issue for second reading at tonight’s meeting. American Pride wants to use the old YMCA property on McIntire avenue for its business, but the facility needs to be re-zoned from a residential property to a commercial one.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce President, Tom Poorman, approached the Board of Directors to see where they stand on the issue.

"It unanimously voted that the Board of Directors for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce endorses-is supporting-Ryan Dodson and American Pride in their efforts to re-locate, " says Manager of Members Services for the Chamber, Dana Matz.

The board cites that the move is being carried out by an established business that has a good reputation. It also added that American Pride is a local business that will continue to invest in the area.

"But that is not to say that we must have development at all cost. There’s a time and a place for strict zoning and proper planning, " says Matz.

Matz says the board feels these principals aren’t being undermined in this particular situation.

It sent a formal letter to City Council at the last meeting to make it members aware of the board’s stance.
