A Zanesville coaching legend celebrates his 90th birthday.

Former Zanesville High School coach and teacher Don Stahl was surrounded by family, friends, and former players today.

"Well I tell ya, it’s a feeling you just don’t get very often. And I’ll never forget this. It’s, I was just so surprised when I drove in here," says Coach Don Stahl.

Coach Stahl began his coaching career in 1945 and finished in 1972. In 27 years he never had a losing season. Those attending the party who played under him say Zanesville is lucky to have had such a great coach and person.

"Don Stahl has meant everything to me in my young life. He showed a lot of faith in me as a young person as he did in all his players. It’s so great to be here, I’ll be here in ten years for his 100th," says Bill Stewart, former player.

"The boys I had were always such good workers and I never forgot that and I think that today, seeing quite a few of them here to a aoch they had 20 or 30 years ago really makes me feel good," says Stahl.

Members of Stahl’s family traveled from California, Idaho, and around Ohio to celebrate his 90 years.
