Emergency Crews Are Careful In Heat

The scorching temperatures force everyone to take precautions especially emergency crews.

Zanesville Fire Chief Dave Lacy says special precautions are taken to make sure fire fighters do not over heat.

"We have to be very aware that that’s going to make them sweat and lose body weight so we make every effort to carefully monitor each fire fighter on the scene and keep them hydrated… keep them drinking water and monitor their vital signs," Chief Lacy said.

Chief Lacy says he has a plan to cool down over heated fire crews.

"We have a tool that we use which is a misting fan…an electric powered fan that has a series of nozzles and we get with a water source. We have a can that we can carry or we can hook it to a hose and once we turn that on the pump turns the water into a fan and it puts a wet mist out and that’s the biggest tool that we use." Chief Lacy said.

Lacy says outdoor chores are kept to a minimum during the hot weather to keep fire crews as ready as possible in the event of a fire call.
