While most people enjoy fireworks from a distance, those who put on the show put a lot of work into lighting up the sky…

In Zanesville, it’s not as easy as pushing a button. Each boom is the result of a hand-lit firework. Hours go into setting up for the big Fourth of July display.

"There will be six of us and we’ll be loading for about two hours. So it’s a total of about 12 man hours just loading the show," says pyrotechnic, Stephen Vincent.

Vincent says that approximately one hour of total work goes into each minute that the fireworks are in the air. Set up for the finale requires some special fireworks that go off one after the other.

"This string of five, we light one fuse right here and it lights all five of them in a matter of about two seconds," says Vincent.

For the finale there are fireworks strung in 10’s and 20’s.
