The cause of a New Lexington fire that took the lives of 3 individuals back in May is still undetermined.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office says it couldn’t leave out the possibility of an overheated electrical connection, where the refrigerator was hooked up, as a possible cause. Spokesman Shane Cartmill says investigators didn’t find any evidence of criminal intent, with samples taken from the scene testing negative for accelerants.
40-year-old Steven Kern, 36-year-old Kathryn Wright, and 13-year-old Eric Wright were found dead in their 327 Elizabeth Street home.
Smoke detectors had not been installed at the time of the fire.
