Pottery enthusiasts from across the country will be taking over the town, starting this weekend.

The Pottery Festival encompasses several local communities in Muskingum County.

"Once known as the "Pottery Capital of the World," the groups that continue to come in love that history, love that it’s our heritage, " says Kelly Ashby of the Zanesville Chamber of Commerce.

Ashby says pottery has a big following because of its beauty, because its pieces have been passed down through generations, and because people had family members who used to work in pottery factories.

The event has a huge economic impact on the region.

"People do this for their vacation. They come to Zanesville and Muskingum County for their vacation, for the pottery festival. So, we continue to see lots of groups, lots of folks that come in to the area and use their vacation time for pottery week, " says Ashby.

The festivities will wrap up during the weekend of July 17th and 18th. For a list of calendar events during the Pottery Festival, visit www.zmchamber.com.
