Taking a Swing for Scholarships

A local organization is taking a swing at giving community members the opportunity to further their education.

Soroptomist International, Zanesville Chapter, works for the betterment and advancement of women. They held their third annual outing at the Green Valley Golf Course to raise money for scholarships.

"We have three specific Soroptomist scholarships and they are, one is for a high school senior who has done a lot of exemplary work, volunteering, and is a wonderful student. Second is a woman who is coming back into the workforce and needs an education to help her get a job to raise the quality of life for her family, and third is a post-graduate scholarship for someone who is moving on, has a degree already," says Taffy Tippett, Public Relations Chairperson of Soroptomist.

52 golfers hit the greens. They also had breakfast, lunch, door prizes and a silent auction to raise funds. Tippett says the event wouldn’t have been possible without a little help from the pro.

"We have had a wonderful time with the green valley golf club. Steve Gallaway has been wonderful, very helpful with everything that we’ve been doing today. We just want to raise a lot of money for the scholarships that we keep locally."

Soroptomist international is always looking for new members. For more information you can go their website at www.simwr.org.
