The Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair is officially underway.
The opening ceremonies were held Sunday evening in front of the Grand Stands. Fair Board President, Darrell Cubbison, took the time to recognize 12-year-old Shae Burkahrt, for his bravery during June’s bus accident on State Route 60. Shae is a member of 4-H. Cubbison also wanted to recognize couples who met at the fair and are still together. The week-long event that is a huge tradition for local residents.
"Every year the fair comes along for the 4-H kids and those individuals, adults that are advisors who come together and celebrate this week. It’s a great festivity for Zanesville, " says Muskingum County Commissioner Jerry Lavy.
Lavy says it’s hard to believe that the fair has been around for 164 years, and it’s still going strong.
"It brings a lot of people from outside the area to come to the fair to visit and to help support the fairgrounds…The Fair Board. They can use that support, the monetary support, " says Lavy.
