A Roosevelt Middle School hallway is packed with thousands of school supplies in Zanesville, ranging from folders and notebooks to rulers and crayons.
Eastside Community Ministry will be packing 800 backpacks with these supplies Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be given to students, from first grade through high school, who pre-registered with the "Tools for School" program.
"Each backpack will be for the individual child, packed according to their school and particular grade level. So, when they go to school, they have exactly what they need, " says program co-chair Sally Ruggles.
Ruggles says it’s important for these kids to be prepared when they enter the classroom in about a month.
"I think just the feeling of the very first day of school, walking in and being like all the other kids in the class with their backpack and supplies is a huge boost, " says Ruggles.
All the school supplies were donated from the community during "Stuff the Bus" and other local organizations.
Kids will be able to drive by and pick up their backpacks this Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
