A former Muskingum County Sheriff’s Deputy is bringing specialized training to the area.

The Southern Ohio Private Police Institute is starting an East Central-Central Ohio Operation, with most of the training being held at the Briar Rabbit Shooting Sports Firearm Range in Zanesville. It will be reaching out to local law enforcement agencies, on the smaller scale, who may need assistance with work place violence, chemical agents, and firearms training.

"Let me…put your hands up. Let me see your hands. Gun! Bang…Bang…Bang…Bang, " as Kelly and another instructor show WHIZ a training session.

But the institute was not formed to duplicate what other schools are doing.

"Zane State for instance has an excellent criminal justice program. There are other schools in the area. What we’re doing is we want to create things where we can get people actual credentials they need to start with, " says Kelly.

Kelly is also certified to provide Ohio Concealed Handgun License Training for anyone in the community.
