Interstate 70 Accident Stops Traffic

by Brittany Shannon on August 31, 2010

Traffic was shut down for more than a half hour on Interstate 70 Eastbound following a two-car accident.

It happened around 5 p.m. just before the Norwich exit in a one-lane construction zone. Trooper Trenas Weaver of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says that 23-year-old Timoteo Perez III of Cambridge, OH was driving East on Interstate 70 in a Chevy Aveo. He proceeded to strike the rear of a GMC Acadia driven by Matthew Schmal, Jr. of Alaska, causing the Acadia to come to rest off the right side of the road. Meanwhile, Perez overcorrected, and the Aveo came to rest in the median.

The State Highway Patrol says that Perez was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. Schmal and the passenger in the Acadia resisted transport. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
