Some local kids walked away with a skip in their step today.
The doors to the Civic Community Center opened up at 9 a.m. to provide area children with a new pair of shoes as they head back to school. As families come in, volunteers will meet with them and find the shoe that perfectly fits their foot, and taste.
"I’m trying these ones on right now," says Keeley McGraw.
"They’re going to have great shoes when they go back to school to play in and stuff, and it will be a good feeling for them," says volunteer Teanna Hrinko.
Wendy’s co-founded "Lace up for Kids" 22 years ago. Everyone involved gets a real "kick" out of helping.
"It’s really been a community partnership. It’s unbelievable how people in Zanesville have really stepped up. Year in and year out, we’re providing up to 1,000 pairs of brand new shoes for school kids," says owner of area Wendy’s, Ben Thompson.
Eastside Ministries says they have 910 community members registered to receive new shoes.
