Main Street Water Line Repaired

The water line that broke on Main Street last night is now fixed, however, you may see some other construction going on in downtown Zanesville.

The city is also replacing several valves on Fifth Street along with the removal of an old fire hydrant.

"A couple of valves that we needed to replace in the system, they’re probably early 1900’s valves that no longer function," said Public Service Director, Mike Sims.

Sims says that these projects are vital for the city and will benefit the public in the long run.

"It’s kind of a temporary inconvenience for a permanent improvement as I like to put it, the more valves, functioning valves, we have in place, the less customers we’ll have out of service when we do experience a break," said Sims.

The Main Street span of the Y-Bridge is currently closed, but West Main Street to Linden Avenue is still open. Sims says the final repairs are expected to be finished by tomorrow night.
