If you are a resident of Ohio and have served in the military during the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan or Iraq War, you could qualify for a veteran’s bonus.
"It’s not only for the veterans that served in a theater of war, it’s for any veterans who were on active duty during that time frame. Whether they were stationed here in the states, or they were in the theater," said Veteran Services Officer Larry Daniels.
Veterans can be eligible for up to $1,000, while survivors of a veteran killed in action can receive up to $6,500.
"Either an online application, the veteran can go online if he has access to the internet, or they can stop in to our office and pick up a hard copy that can be mailed in, or I can assist them with filing it out online," said Daniels.
Voters approved the state to sell 200 million dollars worth of bonds to fund the program. Similar bonuses have been given in the past to veterans of earlier wars.
