Protect Before you Invest

Senior citizens are a popular target for con artists, which is why one organization is working to make them aware.

In a new ad campaign, the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Securities is focusing on teaching people to keep their money safe. The Outreach Coordinator for the Ohio Department of Commerce was at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors to make seniors citizens aware.

"Con artists prey on seniors in our community and specifically we’re talking about investment fraud so these are types of things that a con artist might push on a senior to try to get their hands on a little bit of money," Stephanie Casey Pierce, Outreach Coordinator for the Ohio Department of Commerce.

Pierce says to talk to someone trusted before giving or investing money into any product or person.

"Just stop and think before you invest one dime of your hard-earned money and to call the Division of Securities before you invest in any new product to check to make sure that the person who’s promoting that product is licensed with the division of securities," says Pierce.
