Downtown Zanesville is about to be taken over by some finger-licking fun.
Ribfest will take place this Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight in the parking lot across from Secrest Auditorium. 17 vendors will offer a variety of barbecue favorites, but the ribs are the big draw.
"It’s the taste. In other words when you taste them, some of them just melt in your mouth. Everybody’s always asking me which one’s the best. I really can’t tell what’s the best because they’re all good to me," says Committee Chairperson Ernest Bynum.
A panel of judges will vote for their favorite ribs in the annual rib cook-off, but those who attend will also have a say in the event’s first-ever people’s choice contest.
Bynum says the atmosphere brings in hundreds of people each and every year.
"You don’t have to eat a rib to have a good time. Just come on down and enjoy our company if nothing else, " says Bynum.
There will be live music, with even some local bands getting the chance to perform.
All proceeds from the event will go toward scholarships for a few lucky students in Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties.
