A Cambridge man is dead following a house fire.

It happened around 9 p.m. at 430 North 9th Street.

Several crews, totaling 45 individuals, were called to the scene to tackle the blaze. The Cambridge Fire Chief says it started in the center of the old home and worked its way up, causing extreme damage to the attic. He says firefighters found the man in an upstairs bedroom, were able to pull him out, and administer CPR. He was transported to Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The fire chief says the death may have been brought on by smoke inhalation.

A neighbor says the home belongs to a local doctor. Authorities are not releasing his name until next of kin is notified.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
