A former West Muskingum School teacher appears in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court on two sexual battery charges.
Andrew Hoffer pled guilty to both counts. Assistant Prosecutor, Ron Welch, says the Sheriff’s Office began conducting an investigation surrounding Hoffer at the end of July. He says Hoffer allegedly engaged in various sexual acts with two students. Welch says the first victim was 17-years-old at the time, and the acts occurred between January 2009 and January 20-10 at West Muskingum High School and Hoffer’s residence. Welch says Hoffer then resigned in June of this year and became involved with the second victim, who is a current 17-year-old student at West Muskingum Schools. The acts allegedly occurred between June 10th and July 30th of this year at Hoffer’s house and his current place of employment. Welch would not comment on the possibility of any additional victims being involved.
The Prosecutor’s Office is recommending that Hoffer receive a sentence of 10 years in prison. He’s expected to appear in court again within the next four to six weeks. Judge Kelly Cottrill ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set Hoffer’s bond at $100,000. He’s being held in the Muskingum County Jail.
