ODOT Dealing with I-70 Closures

There have been multiple accidents along Interstate 70 over the past few months that have completely shut down the heavily traveled roadway.

ODOT says it has been looking into what may be causing the crashes, and so far, the staff hasn’t reached a conclusion.

"One accident is a concern. We’ve had over 3,000 accidents already this year in work zones. So, we want to try to pull that number down. We want to try to make sure people are informed that they slow down. They look up, hang up, and slow down for the cone, " says Public Information Officer, Kate Stickle.

Stickle says these accidents have caused long traffic back-ups, which can have major economic impacts. So if the interstate is clogged, ODOT is ready to implement Plan B.

"We look at the map, and we determine which route is best to get them to where they need to be as quickly as possible," says Stickle.

ODOT teams work with other local law enforcement agencies and crews to get the injured transported, the accident assessed, and the interstate open as quickly as possible.
