Operation Spirit Fundraiser

Christmas may be the last thing on your mind, but in order to make sure troops overseas receive their care packages in time, a local organization is starting early, and they’re asking for your help.

A-1 Heating and Cooling located on Linden Avenue decided that in honor of September 11, they wanted to support the troops by helping local organization, Operation Spirit, in holding a fundraiser.

Starting Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., about 60 volunteers will be out at A-1 Heating and Cooling collecting donations for Operation Spirit, who works to send Christmas packages to the troops.

"It’s a good way to remember and honor all that has happened and that will continue for the future," says Melodie Pittman of Operation Spirit.

On Saturday, you can drive through and drop off household goods, cooking tools, clothing, or cards to send to troops.

"If you want to come by, we’re going to have a table set up with Christmas cards out. Believe it or not we start early. We start the first week of October preparing our Christmas boxes and shipping," says Pittman.

Pittman says they will also be selling tickets on Saturday for a chicken dinner fundraiser that Operation Spirit will be holding on October 9, 2010. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $8 for a dinner. Tickets can also be purchased at Operation Spirit.
