Help support our local economy in Zanesville by bringing glass to a recycling event.

Owens-Illinois Glass is sponsoring a glass collection event Saturday, September 18. It’s a part of the Glass Packaging Institute’s glass recycling week where the goal is to educate people on the importance of recycling. Glass is unlike many recyclable materials.

"It’s a close-loop system meaning that it’s one of the only 100% recyclable materials that can be used over and over and over again. Where plastic you have to add new materials every time. It’s not reusable," says Brad Shaw, Kaizen Leader of Owens Illinois.

Shaw says that by recycling glass, it’s also putting many members of the community to work. Owens-Illinois employs approximately 325 people locally.

"It’s an important part of the local economy here in Zanesville. Having a large glass plant here that people need to be aware of," says Shaw.

To do your part, you can attend the collection event this Saturday from 11 to 1 p.m. It will take place across from Zane State College next to the Old County Home.
