A head-on crash between a Tri-Valley School bus and a car  on State Route 146 sends 10 people to the hospital Monday morning.

It happened at about 7:00a.m. just west of State Route 586.   Troopers say a blue Hyundai driven by 20 year old Donald Binckley III was heading east on 146 just west of 586 when he went over the yellow lines and right into the path of a Tri- Valley school bus that was heading to Excel Academy in Newark.

Zanesville State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Steven Rine said the driver had to be cut out of his vehicle and was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with life threatening injuries. Nine students on the bus were taken to Genesis Good Samaritan hospital with minor injuries. Rine said it’s the second school bus accident in about four months.  In June of this year six-year-old Kasey King was killed in an accident on State Route 60 North.  That incident also involved a Tri-Valley School bus.

"It’s a little bit above normal to have two school bus crashes in this time frame. However,  the Tri Valley school bus not a fault. From preliminary investigations the Hyundai went left of center. We have several witnesses and the school bus driver 50-year-old Denise Morrision of Dresden wasn’t hurt….. she gave the same report," Rine said.

Genesis HealthCare officials confirmed that they treated nine students between five and 16-years-old.  Seven were treated and released with minor bumps and bruises and two were transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

State Route 146 was shut down between Hunter Drive and Forest Lane just north of Black Run Road(St. Rt. 586) from 7:15 am until 12:46 pm
The State Highway Patrol along with Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
