Candidates Forum

Candidates Forum

The November election is right around the corner.

To help voters be a little more informed, a candidates forum was held here in Zanesville at the John McIntire Library Auditorium on Sunday. The public was able to listen to a variety of politicians discuss their campaigns and to ask a few questions of their own.

WHIZ spoke with current County Commisioner John Bates and challenger James Porter about the policies they plan to address.

"Jobs, it’s all about jobs, you get people back to work you’re going to stimulate the economy, if they get money in their pocket, they’re going to buy the goods," said challenger James Porter.

Porter says he has been a township trustee for 18 years in Perry County and is no stranger to job creation. He says his township was the first in our area to develop an enterprise zone. County Commissioner John Bates says his record speaks for itself.

"Muskingum County since I’ve been a commissioner here, we have buried 12.7 million dollars worth of sewer lines, and 2.9 million dollars worth of water lines, 1.2 in the water bin grants, 1.3 in the sewer bin grants," said Bates.

Bates says the future of Muskingum county’s economy looks bright, especially with the recent solar panel project, which is expected to bring in around 700 Ohio jobs.

We’ll take a closer look at several other races you can expect to see on the ballot throughout the week on WHIZ news at six.
