Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies can happen at any time.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross says they knew three days earlier that yesterday’s bad storm was on it’s way.

"Being prepared is 99% communication, we have a great communication system here in Muskingum, Morgan and Perry county. We stay in contact with our EMA directors all the time," said Keeley Warden of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

Warden says they are constantly updating their emergency manual and making sure they have the supplies needed to help out the community. She says right now they’re gearing up for winter.

"A lot of people don’t realize that winter is the hard time because when you have the ice storms that’s the toughest and the roughest because once those powerlines come down and power goes out, it’s cold," she said.

She suggests purchasing a battery operated radio in case the power goes out and to also have an emergency kit with necessities like a flashlight, non-parishable food, water, and blankets.
