If you haven’t received your annual flu shot, there is still time.
Rambo Memorial Health Center is continuing to offer free flu shots to local residents. Executive Director Crystal Bebout says 16,000 shots were ordered for Muskingum County, but a majority have yet to be given due to lack of participation.
"127,000 people a year get hospitalized and a majority of these people that get hospitalized for the flu symptoms are elderly people and children," said Bebout.
She strongly encourages everyone to receive the shot before flu season arrives. She adds that people’s fear of needles and belief that they’ll get sick from the shot is a large deterrent.
"You cannot get the flu from the vaccine, because it’s an inactivated virus it’s not a live virus for the shot," she said.
Free flu shots are available at the center Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and for those working during that time, there will be an evening clinic on November 9th from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
