The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency says a Falls Township foundry will pay thousands for air pollution violations.
The EPA announced that the Burnham Foundry LLC has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $17,000 to settle air pollution violations stemming from its facility on Licking Road.
The EPA says the Burnham Foundry violated the terms and conditions of its air permit in April 2008 by exceeding the established particulate emissions at a furnace unit used to melt foundry returns and scrap metal. The Foundry submitted a plan to get into compliance in October 2008 and shut the plant down for maintenance in December of that year. In February 2009 they re-tested emissions and were in compliance.
The company was fined $17,000, because they failed to report that they were out of compliance between April 2008 and February 2009 in quarterly deviation reports.
