Leaf Pick-up to Begin Despite Tight Budget

The City of Zanesville will begin their yearly leaf pick-up efforts in November, but that means that street sweeping will end early.

The Public Service Department will be collecting leaves starting November 1 through December 10.

"It’s going to be tougher this year because we do have a very tight budget so in order to be able to accommodate picking up leaves we’re going to top the street sweeper a little bit early this year. That fuel money can be transferred and utilized for the leaf pick-up," says Public Service Director, Mike Sims.

Sims says the city will not be able to prolong their leaf pick-up efforts past December 10.

"If you wait until the very last moment, we probably will not be able to extend beyond December 10 just because of the budget issues and we have to get the trucks ready for snow plows."

Sims wants to remind people to push their leaves to the curb and not into the streets.
