Let Freedom Run

A local community comes together each year to remember a fallen Marine and donate to a cause he would have been proud of.

Sgt. Brad Harper was killed in Iraq in August of 2005. Since then, the Dresden community holds the ‘Let Freedom Run’ 5K to honor him. Family friend, Ali Lawrence worked with Brad and started the event in October 2005. This year all proceeds benefit Toys for Tots.

"He never had the opportunity to have his own children and he worked in the daycare at the fitness center and he was amazing with kids, and so this is one way for us to give back to the children for him," says event organizer, Ali Lawrence.

Lawrence says she chose the organization because it is Marine-funded. She says this years’ turnout was one of the best.

"It’s an amazing experience and I hope everyone continues to remember our military and keep them safe and God bless them and their families."

The event usually raises $2,500.
