An area woman says she’s not guilty of abduction and custody charges against her.
48-year-old Murita Newman Wednesday pled not guilty in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court to one count of interference with custody and one count of abduction.
Newman is accused of taking her 7-year-old son from his grandparent’s home at 1105 McIntire Avenue October 4th.
Zanesville Police say Newman fled to Wheeling, West Virginia where she was encountered by police in a convenience store and claimed she was lost.
Newman was later brought back to Zanesville and is being held in the Muskingum County Jail.
Judge Mark Fleegle continued her bond at $100,000.
If convicted Newman faces six years in prison.
