Ohio University is confirming that one of its students is being treated for bacterial meningitis.

Junior Lindsay Harris was transported from O’Blenesses Memorial Hospital in Athens to a Columbus area hospital Saturday. External Communications Senior Manager, Kelley Finan, says the institution has been in contact with Harris’ parents, who say their daughter is doing well. Finan says it’s not know right now if the strain affecting Harris is the same one that has sickened eight students over the past two years.

Harris lives in an off-campus sorority house, and the university says it will take all the necessary precautions for those who have been in close contact with her. OU’s Dean of Students also sent an e-mail to parents and students, notifying them of the matter.
