A Zanesville mother says she is thankful for her family and friends.

A benefit was held Saturday afternoon at Terry’s Tavern in honor of her son, Tyler Hardin, 19, who was murdered in July.

"It really touches my heart to know that so many people care and are concerned and I can’t even begin to thank the people that have come together on this," said mother Kim Saunders.

Saunders says she knows her son is looking down and would be proud of the support given to his family during this tragedy.

Heather and Terrell Nowlin are charged in connection to his murder. Heather’s trial was supposed to start next week, but it has since been delayed.

"I was told from the beginning that this could happen, continuances, delays, I wasn’t really surprised at it. It is frustrating, I just want it to be over. In a way, I know it will never really be over, but I just want justice to be served," she said.

Terrell’s trial is also set to start next Thursday. On Friday, his attroney filed a motion for appropriation of funds for experienced investigators, a mitigation specialist, and a defense psychologist. His attorney was denied a motion that would delay the trial earlier in the week. All proceeds from the benefit were donated to Hardin’s family to assist with funeral expenses.
