The Zanesville Blue Devils (8-1) enter the final contest of the 2010 season in familiar shoes.
Like last year, when ZHS missed out on the OHSAA playoffs after a 9-1 finish, a win Friday over Western Brown (6-3) does not guarantee the Red, White, and Blue a spot in the postseason.
With Week 11 in sight, the Blue Devils will face a playoff atmosphere Friday when they head to Mount Orab, OH, the longest road trip for Zanesville under head coach Chad Grandstaff.
Apart from a three-and-a-half hour drive, ZHS will face a fast, hard-nosed Broncos team still in the running for a playoff spot in Division II, Region 8.
Western Brown has had to deal with serious injury problems, including the loss of two quarterbacks.
Junior Nick Woodyard has run things out of the Broncos shotgun formation, and, so far, has done relatively well in the position.
Woodyard, as well as Western Brown’s talented set of wide receivers, have been a big part of the Broncos current 5-game win streak.
"It’s been an interesting season for our guys," said coach Evan Dreyer earlier this week.
"We’ve had injury problems. We have played 10 Freshmen due to injuries. But, recently, everything has really started to click on both sides of the ball."
The Broncos dropped their first game of the season to Hillsboro 35-34, the same Indians team that five weeks later went home bruised in a 64-16 loss at the hands of Zanesville.
Kick-off for Friday’s contest is set for 7:30. Join us on AM 1240 starting at 6:45 for pre-game coverage beginning with Tonight In Ohio High School Football.
Zanesville Playoff Scenarios
The Blue Devils need to win Friday against Western Brown, but that alone will not guarantee Zanesville a spot in the playoffs.
ZHS will need 3 of its opponents to record victories on Friday IF Beechcroft beats Northland and Louisville beats Minerva
— Losses by those 2 teams would mean 2 Blue Devil opponents would need to win
