One local church is ringing in the holiday season.
Grace United Methodist Church of Zanesville hosted it’s 21st annual handbell festival Sunday evening. Hundreds gathered to watch the concert. Music Director Jim Mayercak says preparations for the event are done well in advance.
"We pick the music for this in late summer, and then begin rehearsing in the fall, usually around early September. "
Six area churches participate in the performance. Mayercak says each church has their own handbell group that practices individually and then in the fall, they combine to form one large handbell group.
"This is a great holiday tradition. And it’s also a way for each of these churches representing their own churches here to ring and use handbells as a form of praise and worship."
The festival also featured some special soloists and club groups that performed. The event is sponsored by Thursday Music Group.
