An accident in Muskingum County, involving a dump truck and a tractor, ends with a local piece of property being damaged.
It happened just before noon in the 5,000 block of Pleasant Valley Road. Zanesville Post State Trooper Jeremy Mendenhall says 77-year-old Joseph Taylor of Glenford pulled out from a private driveway in the path of a dump truck. He says the driver of the dump truck, 37-year-old Todd Journey of Nashport, was coming down a hill and ended up striking the tractor.
"This is the hand that we’re dealt when it comes to the roads that we have to drive. When you have something with an obstacle coming out from a private drive, it’s one of those things where it’s very hard to avoid," says Mendenhall.
Mendenhall says the dump truck pushed the tractor into the porch of a nearby house. He says the house is considered an estate, and Taylor was one of the 11 owners.
Taylor was injured in the incident and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Journey and his one passenger were not injured.
Mendenhall says the incident could have been a lot worse because the impact was so great.
"The truck as you can see, it’s disabled. It took the front end out from it, and it’s pretty seriously injured," says Mendenhall.
Taylor was cited with failure to yield from a private drive.
