Accident on State Route 146 Turns Fatal

One person is dead after a two vehicle fatal Friday night.

The accident took place on State Route 146 and Coon Ridge Road around 9:30pm. According to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol a 1994 Honda Accord, driven by 19-year-old Adam Masters of Woodsfield, was travelling east on State Route 146 when a 2004 Honda Odyssey, driven by 68-year-old Bernard Blackford of Zanesville, turned left in front of the Accord and was struck on the right side.

The rear seat occupant of the Odyssey, Naomi Kirby of Zanesville, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Genesis Good Samaritan where she was pronounced dead by Muskingum County Coroner Dr. Perry Kalis.

Masters was treated for only minor injures at the scene. Blackford and his other passenger 70-year-old Marlene Blackford suffered non incapacitating injuries and were transported to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.

All passengers with the exception of Kirby were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
