3,649 said ‘No’ to Issue 1 on the Muskingum County ballot putting a stop to a proposed 3% lodging tax in the City of Zanesville.

The bed tax was on the ballot to provide funds for a community pool, that supporters say is necessary for the community.

"I feel that the pool will be able to be a gathering place for our families and our children so that they can have some type of recreational environment where they can enjoy the outdoors in the summer time," says Janet Stewart, Community Pool Committee Member.

Steward is calling the vote against the lodging tax just a small set-back. It’s not going to stop them from working to get a centrally located pool in Zanesville.

"We’ve set our priority. We know that we want to have a community pool, community recreation center so we’re going to go back and look for grants."

Stewart did not have any information on where a pool would be located.
